Massoud Andarabi Appointed As Acting Interior Minister

Sources close to President Ashraf Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah on Monday confirmed that Major General Massoud Andarabi was appointed as Acting Minister of Interior – twenty-two days after Amrullah Saleh, who has joined Ghani’s team in upcoming presidential elections, resigned from the same post.

His appointment was welcomed by a number of Afghan politicians who took to twitter to appreciate the move.

Andarabi previously served as the deputy director of the National Directorate of Security (NDS).

According to government-owned Bakhtar News Agency, Andarabi has a bachelor’s degree in Management and Information Technology.

He has also served as Deputy Director of Operations for the NDS.

After Saleh’s resignation on Jan. 19, the activities of the ministry were overseen by the National Security Advisor Hamdullah Mohib.

This comes after President Ghani appointed new deputies for the ministry on Feb. 2.

According to NSA’s office, the new appointments include Abdul Saboor Qane as first Deputy Minister of Interior, Khoshal Sadat as Senior Deputy Minister of Interior for Security and Mahir Yaqubi as head of counterterrorism department of the ministry.
